The Fallacy Of Self-Made

A self-made is someone who gets far in life, without much reliance from family wealth or connections. They find a way, often because there’s no other choice. Their ideas are deemed innovative, as if it’s never been thought of before.

That’s the belief of a self-made man.

But to call it ‘self-made’ is to ensue misunderstandings. It undermines the collected efforts of the person’s many supporters. Arnold Schwarzenegger realizes this and claims to not be ‘self-made,’ despite his background being the embodiment of one.

Still, it’s a term that creates discussion. And as part of the ongoing discussion, I wanted to add something: if the claimed ‘self-made’ didn’t initiate the project, would the idea have sprouted?

Here’s my inspiration for the day.
