One of my favorite sayings is by Ernest Shackleton, found from his writings:
“By endurance we conquer.”
A family motto, Shackleton internalized this phrase when his 1914 expedition to Antarctica became a battle for survival. When his ship was trapped in ice, facing freezing temperatures, taking multiple detours without a map or equipment, and rallying his 28 men out of despair, Shackleton’s family motto was being tested more than ever.
It suggests that endurance is the tool to enable victory.
Stealing inspiration from it, I have a similar motto:
“In endurance we conquer.”
It’s similar, but the difference is that mine suggests that success is found within the hardships, not after; that success is found while enduring, not as a result of it.
In any case, Sam Altman said it best:
“You can win by endurance.”
It’s true.
We can win by endurance.
Here’s my inspiration for the day.
