Inequality begins with a simple fact: we want what we don’t have. In fact, it’s the plot for many stories because it resonates with a familiar feeling: to yearn.
And it works both ways.
The laborer wishes for luxury; the king yearns for the laborer’s sleep.
The father longs for riches; the millionaire envies the father who can laugh with his children at the kitchen table.
The young woman seeks fame; the actress wishes she could walk into a café unrecognized.
The few long for what cannot be bought, while the many live it daily.
There are good things in life that often go unnoticed. Naturally, you chase after what you don’t have because you’re not satisfied.
And I say to keep chasing— that’s what ambition is for; that’s how progress is made.
But through it all, let it be known that the envy of the few is the reality of many.
Remind yourself what you’re truly after and accept the costs that come with it.
Because to live an ordinary life is to possess the extraordinary.
