Fred Rogers was an American television host and pioneer in children’s programming. His most notable television show was ‘Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,’ which became the launchpad for how he’s remembered today. Rogers’ authenticity and compassion provided wonderful insights on human behavior, such as:
“Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone.”
Fred Rogers
Anything mentionable is manageable. As long as you verbally express what’s troubling you, it can be dealt with.
But I’d take this a step further.
Anything manageable is actionable. If it’s capable of being steered in the right direction, then it’s capable of being acted upon.
So, now, the sequence goes like this:
Mentionable → Manageable → Actionable
Mentionable = something significant enough to be mentioned or discussed
Manageable = something that can be controlled, handled, or dealt with effectively
Actionable = something capable of being acted upon
It’s simple, really. But it’s often the simplicity that gets overlooked.
Try applying this concept in your daily life.
Here’s my inspiration for the day.
