A Singular Case

The idea that a small percentage of people perceive cilantro as dish soap because of a genetic variation is fascinating and unique.

Fascinating because its research transcended beyond the scientific community and reached pop culture, where its polarization is justifiable— it’s not because of preference, but because it’s genetic.

Unique because it’s the only fresh herb that evokes an extreme reaction. Even in countries where cilantro is a staple, there are those that can’t stand it. No other herb or spice can bring out such a reaction. Its taste makes cilantro a singular case. You find it either tolerable or intolerable.

Cilantro is a singularity where its polarization is justifiable.
