Am I Ready?

After reading the introduction of the book America, América by Greg Grandin, I’m left wondering if all my knowledge and interests, ranging from American history, Mexican history, Latin American history, Catholicism, and all of their notable figures, were a precursor for understanding all of it as not fragmented parts but as an inevitable whole, that somehow, someway, all of my past knowledge, identities, and experiences have led to this.

And perhaps once I finish the large 600+ page book, the question will be posed: Am I ready to play the role that is asked of me?

There are four books I’m reading now:

  • America, América by Greg Grandin
  • History Matters by David McCullough
  • Revolutionary Characters by Gordon S. Wood
  • Parallel Lives by Plutarch

Each book focuses on a specific aspect, yet they all connect to my North Star.

I’m fascinated by those who lived extraordinary lives. It makes me think: if they did it with the limited resources and time they had, why can’t I with the limited resources and time I have?

There’s an opportunity for us to play an important role in history. Through my work, I’ll understand what that role will be for someone with my background.

I’m extremely fortunate to be where I am now, given the rich resources at my disposal. I couldn’t have asked for better circumstances.

Allow me to align myself with the heroic stories I admire.
