When there’s a goal in mind, it’s natural to search for those closest to them. Bonus points when the person comes from a similar background or has a similar personality or knowledge.
Want to cultivate a garden? Search online for videos of others already doing it.
Want to make stir fry? Find recipes of others who already did it.
But our efforts would never reach the original. Our results won’t be the same as the people we look up to, no matter how hard we try.
Along the way, our imitation becomes authentic. Our personality shines through and gives the copy a new image. Our thoughts and ideas give the copy a new flavor. Over time, the copy becomes original. So, what others think is a copy is actually an original.
That’s why we have a Kobe Bryant and a Michael Jordan, a Conan O’Brien and a David Letterman, a George Washington and a Cincinnatus.
Like snowflakes, no two are the same, nor will they.
