The phrase “moving mountains” means to accomplish something seemingly impossible through great effort and faith.
The origin of the phrase is biblical.
In Matthew 17:20, Jesus says,
“If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
The phrase was also mentioned in a Chinese fable called “The Foolish Old Man Removes a Mountain,” where a man persistently tries to remove mountains blocking his home entrance.
When questioned on the seemingly impossible task, the man replied that while he may not finish it in his lifetime, the hard work of himself, his children, and their children may someday remove the mountains.
The gods were impressed with his hard work and tenacity and ordered the mountains to be separated.
The phrase itself sounds seemingly impossible.
But it can be done.
One of the many challenges, however, of moving a mountain is that many will not try.
But if you were to find the few that would, you’d discover the very people who will move the world forward.
