The words of the past still haunt us today.
We can’t run from them
as they linger in our minds.
Perhaps that’s a good thing
as they can serve as a reminder.
But maybe it’s a bad thing
as it gives us permission to repeat tragedies.
Let it be known that
that man who chooses the harsher conditions,
despite how easier it would be
to do what others have done,
is a man who accepts the past for what it was
and challenges the future for what it could bring.
His rivals are not his contemporaries
but with the ghosts of history.
