The Girl Reading Dostoevsky

A couple of months ago, after I finished my work at a coffee shop and was packing up to leave, I noticed a girl reading a large book across from me.

I have a habit of approaching strangers reading in public to ask about their books. So far, these encounters have been positive.

This time, I asked her what she was reading, as I was more curious than usual since I rarely see people reading large books in public. She was open about it and humored me.

She said she was reading Notes From The Underground, and I immediately responded with ‘Fyodor Dostoevsky.’ I’ve been wanting to read that book since I find his books intriguing, but haven’t got around to it so I asked her what she thought about it.

We had a good 15-minute conversation before I realized I needed to leave. I thanked her for her time and left.

While learning new things and reading fascinating stories is my favorite aspect of reading, a close second is meeting people who share this sentiment.

Here’s my inspiration for the day.
