The Influence of Jobs

This morning, I took my cousin to take his driver’s test.

We went inside and waited until his name was called. While dealing with another examinee, I noticed the driver examiner was blunt in his responses and direct in his instructions.

As he took my cousin and my car for his test, I wondered:

Does the job shape the personality, or does the personality shape the job?

Was the driver examiner always blunt and direct, or did his job shape him in that manner?

How much influence do our jobs have over our personalities?

An international banker, I’d assume, would be full of confidence, while a fast-food worker might be afraid to speak his mind.

But what if it was the other way around?

If the fast-food worker showed exceptional confidence, and if the international banker remained timid. What then?

How much control do we really have in our current jobs? And how much are we influenced by them?

We do not see things as they are, we see them as we are.
