The Joy To Retaliate

There was a time when the phone rang, and I let it ring.
A time when messages sat unread, because I feared the weight of words.
Thousands of times questions wanted to come out, but were instead swallowed.

Too timid to ask.
Too proud to seek.
Too small to stand tall.

I walked with hesitation, self-conscious of the world.
I mistook silence for strength and uncertainty for wisdom.
Reserved about my way of living.

But I grew weary of it.

No man grows by shrinking.
No struggle is without scars.

I respond to everything and everyone.

Now, when the phone rings, I answer.
When a question stirs, I surge.
When rejection comes, I greet it like an old friend, knowing he’s clearing a path.

My curiosity knows no boundaries.

I do not wait—I act.
I do not whisper—I speak.

I walk confidently in public, and stand straight with my shoulders back.

There is no shame in doing what must be done.
No fear in being bold.
To have nothing to lose, and everything to gain.

Such circumstances have given me the joy to retaliate.

Here’s my inspiration for the day.
