I got done finishing my school work for the day and wanted to head home. I was hungry but I didn’t want to spend much on food. It was at this moment that I remembered I had a coupon for a free BBQ Bacon Burger with the purchase of Medium Fries and a 32 oz. Drink at Whataburger tucked deep inside my wallet.
It felt like fate was on my side.
As I was driving to Whataburger, I had a stupid grin on my face because I had the chance of using a coupon— something I don’t do often enough. When I arrived and finished taking my order through the drive-thru, I presented my wrinkled up Whataburger coupon to the drive-thru worker taking my card.
I was excited yet nervous because I was afraid it wouldn’t get accepted for some odd reason (what if it was too wrinkled?).
After a few minutes of what felt like waiting for the results of whether I passed on America’s Got Talent, the worker opened the window again and asked to confirm using the coupon. I quickly said yes. In retrospect, I likely sounded like a crazy person at the moment. He closed the window again and gave me my card back along with the receipt and I drove to the next window to wait for my food.
I looked at the receipt and noticed they charged me for a BBQ Bacon Burger and subtracted the price of it.
In other words, I got my free BBQ Bacon Burger.
I was elated when I received it and happily drove back home. Thank you for accepting my coupon, Zacobe. You are part of the essential workers we need in our society.
