Rereading Austin Kleon’s books, I always find something new to chew on.
In his book, Steal Like An Artist, Kleon noticed most websites and blogs are designed to show their content reverse-chronologically— their most recent post is the first one you see.
But it was the way he framed it that caught my eye.
“…so you’re only as good as your last post. This keeps you on your toes, keeps you thinking about what you can post next.”
You’re only as good as your latest.
If visitors are only seeing one of your posts, and that post happens to be your latest, then you’re obligated to serve them well and keep them coming back.
Conan O’Brien, during his Hot Ones episode, said “show business is you’re getting the greatest show in the world.” He was a late night host for nearly 28 years, meaning he always went out to give his audience the best show yet.
Treat your work the same.
Treat your projects the same.
If your audience is an audience of one, then give that one person the greatest show yet.
All it takes is one to set things in motion.
Here’s my inspiration for the day.
